Le livre qui peut se lire comme un hommage à la montagne n'est pas sans rappeler certaines des oeuvres du grand romancier italien Mario Rigoni Stern (disparu en 2008). Une vie au rythme des saisons, un ode à la nature. As young men and adults they lived vastly different lives - Pietro lived in cities and travelled the world whilst Bruno lived the life of a mountain man. Cognetti has put good efforts in showing in stead of telling; in the many episodes the close friends Pietro and Bruno are together in the second half of the novel, nearly as many occasions there is meaningfullness in those two having almost no spoken conversation.In brief - This had a real charm to it for me. How can the mountain world continue to provide a space for a distinct culture and an authentic way of life in an age that is swept up in an increasingly homogenised, urban, cosmopolitan and consumerist culture?

J'ai bien aimé ce roman qui aborde des thèmes de tous les jours, mais d'une façon lente, avec un vocabulaire assez recherché (peut-être un peu trop pour moi) et un milieu de vie très serein, calme, avec la montagne, les randonnées, l'envie d'aller toujours plus haut, plus loin... C'est un roman assez court, mais que j'ai trouvé vraiment intense.Les personnages sont simples, avec des caractères assez forts, notamment celui de Pietro qui ne se laisse pas faire lorsque son père le "force" à venir marcher avec lui en montagne alors qu'il ne se sent pas bien.

For me, while I could recognize that the book was well written I found it uninvolving. « Les Huits Montagnes » témoignent éloquemment du succès de cette entreprise. Every summer, his father takes the family into the mountains, where he climbs the rugged mountain peaks in the search of something he never quite manages to find. It is a coming of age novel with emphasis on coping with the alpine nature. C'est là que commençait le monde de mon père. Unfortunately, the book was too gentle and uneventful for me. Alors quand ce "montagnero" taciturne prend une nouvelle fois la plume , c'est un vrai cadeau qu'il nous fait! I did not feel anything, only a bit of impatience to finish so I can read something else. These are fine psychological portA lovely story that kept me in thrall until the very end. I cannot fault the Paolo Cognetti, the novel felt well written and the story, of 2 friends who found themselves in the mountains, should have been endearing.

È così astratta nella vostra testa che è astratto pure il nome. Paolo Cognetti. Piero tells about his growth in a pithy and neat style. On a surtout beaucoup de descriptions dans le roman, peut-être un peu trop ce qui le fait tirer en longueur par moment.L'écriture de l'auteur sait être poétique, malheureusement, je n'ai pas été transportée malgré les belles phrases, les jolies descriptions et l'envie d'aller dans les montagnes.

It's perhaps one of the places men go to prove to themselves they are men.
